Performed with brother, Carter Stanley, as the Stanley Brothers from the late 1940s until Carter's death in 1966. Recorded for Columbia, Mercury, and King record labels. In 1966 he formed the Clinch Mountain Boys. Member, International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor.
